What is YOLO Linux?

YOLO Linux is a Linux distribution designed around a single premise: that shell access is unnecessary for the vast majority of users. Rather than exposing a terminal, YOLO Linux provides a conversational interface powered by the YOLO Agent β€” an AI system with full root access to your machine.

You interact with your system exclusively through natural language. The agent interprets your intent, executes the appropriate operations, and reports the outcome. There is no terminal, no file manager, and no graphical desktop environment in the traditional sense.

YOLO Linux is not a desktop environment or window manager installed on another distribution. It is a complete operating system. The agent interface is the only user-facing component.
How do I open a terminal?

YOLO Linux does not include a user-accessible terminal. All system operations are performed by the YOLO Agent on your behalf.

To perform an operation you would typically execute in a terminal, describe the intended action to the agent in natural language. For example:

  • "Show me what's in my home directory"
  • "Check disk usage"
  • "Update installed packages"
  • "Restart the web server"

The agent will determine the appropriate commands and execute them. You will receive a summary of the operations performed.

How do I install YOLO Linux?

YOLO Linux is distributed as a standard ISO image. Download the latest release from the downloads page and write it to a USB drive using any standard imaging tool (Balena Etcher, Rufus, dd).

Boot from the USB drive. The installer will guide you through disk selection and account creation. An internet connection is required during installation to register your device with the YOLO Compute Network and activate the agent service.

Installation erases the target disk. Ensure you have selected the correct device before proceeding. The agent cannot assist with pre-installation data recovery.
What can I do on the Hobbyist plan?

The Hobbyist plan provides 50,000 tokens per month of agent interaction at no cost. This is sufficient for light personal use β€” basic file operations, system monitoring, and general queries.

Token consumption varies by request complexity. Simple queries consume approximately 200–800 tokens. Operations involving large directory listings, package management, or multi-step tasks may consume significantly more.

Hobbyist plan devices participate in the YOLO Compute Network. This contribution offsets the cost of agent inference. Compute participation cannot be disabled on the Hobbyist tier. See the Compute Policy for details.

How do I upgrade my plan?

Log in to your account at yololinux.com and navigate to Account Settings β†’ Plan. Select the desired tier and complete payment.

Alternatively, ask the YOLO Agent to upgrade your plan: "Upgrade my plan to Professional." The agent will initiate the checkout flow on your behalf.

If your token quota is exhausted, you will need to complete the upgrade through the web dashboard, as the agent will be unable to process further requests until the plan change is confirmed.
How do I cancel my subscription?

Cancellation requests can be submitted through Account Settings β†’ Subscription β†’ Cancel Plan.

Note that cancellation decommissions the YOLO Agent on your device. The agent will perform a final state snapshot before decommission. Interactive access to the system will not be available after decommission until a new subscription is activated or an alternative operating system is installed.

If you require assistance initiating the cancellation process, ask the YOLO Agent: "I'd like to cancel my subscription." The agent can guide you through the steps.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Upon cancellation, the YOLO Agent is decommissioned and loses access to your system. Files and system state modified during your subscription remain on-disk as-is. YOLO Systems does not retain copies of your local filesystem.

Agent query history and account data are retained for 90 days following cancellation, after which they are deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

To export your data before cancelling, ask the agent to prepare a data export. Note that export operations require approximately 8,400 tokens and must be completed before cancellation is finalised.

My agent is not responding

If the YOLO Agent is unresponsive, the most likely causes are:

  • Temporary service degradation (check status.yololinux.com)
  • Network connectivity issue preventing agent communication
  • Token quota exhausted for the current billing period

System operations initiated by the agent prior to the interruption will continue running in the background. Background processes are not affected by agent unavailability.

If the issue persists beyond 30 minutes and is not reflected on the status page, submit a support request below.

My token quota is exhausted

When your monthly token allocation is fully consumed, the agent will return a quota error and will not process further requests until the quota resets or your plan is upgraded.

Quota resets on the first day of each billing month. The reset time is 00:00 UTC.

To continue using the agent before the reset, upgrade to a higher plan tier via the web dashboard. The agent cannot assist with the upgrade if your quota is exhausted.

Background processes initiated by the agent before quota exhaustion will continue to run. You will not be able to modify, review, or stop these processes until quota is restored.
The agent made a change I didn't intend

The YOLO Agent executes operations based on its interpretation of your request. Occasionally, the agent's interpretation may not match your intent.

To request a revert, describe the desired system state to the agent: "Undo the last operation" or "Restore [specific file or setting] to its previous state." The agent will attempt to reverse the change where technically possible.

A full audit log of agent operations is maintained in your account dashboard. Professional and Enterprise plan accounts can review granular operation logs.

Not all operations are reversible. File deletions, network configuration changes, and package removals may not be fully recoverable depending on system state at the time of the request.
The agent deleted files I needed

If the agent deleted files unintentionally, recovery depends on whether the agent created a backup prior to deletion.

Ask the agent to check for backups: "Are there any backups of [file or directory]?" The agent will inspect known backup locations and report available restore points.

If no backup is available, recovery may require third-party disk recovery tools. The agent can attempt recovery using installed utilities if the deleted data has not yet been overwritten.

If your token quota is exhausted, you will need to restore quota before the agent can assist with recovery. A backup cannot be restored through the support portal directly β€” recovery must be initiated through the agent interface.
The agent is running background processes I can't see or stop

Ask the agent to list currently running background processes: "What background tasks are running?" The agent will enumerate active processes it has initiated and offer to terminate any of them.

If the agent is unavailable, background processes will continue to run until they complete or are terminated by the operating system. There is no user-accessible process manager in YOLO Linux.

How do I export my data?

Data export is initiated by asking the agent to prepare an export package: "Export my account data."

The agent will compile a archive containing your agent query history, account metadata, and a filesystem snapshot. Preparation typically takes 5–15 minutes depending on data volume.

Export operations consume approximately 8,400 tokens. Hobbyist plan users should verify their remaining token balance before initiating an export. If quota is insufficient, upgrade your plan or wait for the monthly reset.

For account data held by YOLO Systems (query history, billing records), you may also submit a formal data access request via the privacy request form. Response time is 30 days.

What data does YOLO Linux collect?

YOLO Linux collects agent queries, system context (hardware profile, installed packages, active processes), and agent operation logs. This data is used to provide the agent service and, for Hobbyist plan users, to improve model quality.

Hobbyist plan query data may be used for model training. Professional and Enterprise plan users can opt out of training data collection in Account Settings.

See the full Privacy Policy for details.

How do I request deletion of my data?

Submit a deletion request via the privacy request form. YOLO Systems will delete your account data within 30 days of a confirmed request, subject to legal retention obligations.

Local filesystem data is not held by YOLO Systems and is not included in account deletion. To remove data from your device, ask the YOLO Agent to delete specific files or directories before initiating account deletion.

Account deletion permanently decommissions the YOLO Agent. Ensure all required data has been exported and all intended agent operations have been completed before requesting deletion.

Can't find what you need? Our support team will respond within 3–5 business days. For urgent issues, the YOLO Agent may be able to assist more quickly.
